Sotheby's is honoured to be involved once again with the Art for Africa™ auction. Art for Africa builds upon great and historic successes achieved in London two years ago, and we are thrilled to host a New York auction that draws upon the talent and generosity of so many. The auction supports Africa Foundation as it works for a greater Africa, and it presents a wonderful opportunity to acquire great works while supporting greater works.
Within the pages of this catalogue you will find outstanding works of art in a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and installation by some of the most exciting artists working in Africa today. The numerous highlights include Beezy Bailey's moving 'Face of Africa,' Peterson Kamwathi's exquisite 'Kadhis' Court III' and Mary Sibande's unforgettable 'I decline. I refuse to recline.'
Additionally, internationally-based artists such as Peter Beard, Nick Cave, Andres Serrano, Dylan Lewis and Nabil Nahas have been incredibly generous in donating significant works of art for this extraordinary event. Unquestionably, opportunities abound for collectors to acquire substantial pieces by some of the most talented artists working today.
We look forward to hosting you in our galleries for the historic and vibrant pre-sale exhibition from November 12-17 and, of course, for the auction on the evening of November 17, 2011.
