Important Information

Conditions of Sale

All lots are sold subject to the conditions of sale for buyers, set forth at the back of this catalogue. Bidders are strongly encouraged to read these as they set out the terms under which property is bought at auction.

No VAT will be chargeable on lots bought in the Art for Africa auction (VAT definition DOES NOT include Import Duty, where relevant, see note below)

Symbols Used in the Catalogue

The asterix symbol (*) indicates that lots have been imported from outside the EU, and as such are subject to Import Duty, payable at the current published rate. Import Duty will be payable in addition to hammer price.

The (c) symbol © indicates that the artist continues to own title to the copyright in respect of the piece and that this right has been reserved by the artist and does not transfer on acquisition of the piece by the buyer.

Estimates

Estimates are based upon prices recently paid at auction for comparable property and take into account condition, rarity, quality and provenance. Estimates are subject to revision. Buyers should not rely on estimates as a representation or prediction of actual selling prices.

Reserves

The reserve is the confidential minimum price The Africa Foundation will accept and will not exceed the low pre-sale estimate.

Absentee Bids

If you are unable to attend Art for Africa and wish to place bids you may give The Africa Foundation instructions to bid on your behalf. We will then try to purchase the lot(s) of your choice at the lowest price possible and to a maximum price as indicated by you. Please note that The Africa Foundation offers this service to help supporters who are unable to attend the event and although we will make every effort, we will not be responsible for any errors or failure to execute bids for any reason. Absentee bids must be received in writing or via the Art for Africa Website

Please use the absentee/telephone bid form provided at the back of this catalogue and on our website. Be sure to record accurately the lot numbers and descriptions and the maximum price you are willing to pay for each lot - this should be the amount to which you would bid if you were attending the sale yourself. Unlimited bids will not be accepted. Alternative bids can be placed by using the word 'or' between lot numbers. Bids must be placed in the same order as the lot numbers appear in the catalogue. Please place your bids as early as possible. In the event of identical bids, the earliest received will take precedence. Please fax your form to 0207 409 3901 on completion.

Telephone Bids

Arrangement of telephone bids must be made at least 24 hours prior to the auction. To arrange a telephone bid, please use the absentee bid/telephone bid form at the back of this catalogue and on our website. Please refer to Absentee Bid information above.
