Artist biography:
Born in1965 in Aliwal North, South Africa, and lives in the town of Upington in the Northern Cape province of South Africa.
Studied Fine Art at the University of Pretoria (1983-89) and at the Staatliche Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf.
Meyer offers a distinct and individual vision and sense of the landscape. His subjects are often banal and not obviously picturesque. He instils his atmospheric landscapes with a haunting uncertainty, usually accentuated by a play of sunlight and shadow at dawn and dusk. References to man's activities are indirect, in the form of deserted structures or relics of habitation, but never sighting humans or any activity or industry.
Meyer has had solo exhibitions at Johans Borman Fine Art Gallery, Cape Town and Everard Read Gallery, Johannesburg.
His work has been collected by the South African National Gallery in Cape Town, Ogilvy & Mather, Reader's Digest (New York), the South African Reserve Bank, Siemens and the Rupert Foundation amongst others.
