Artist biography:

Born in 1938 in London

Terry O'Neill's career in photography began quite by chance. As a budding jazz drummer he thought working for a transatlantic airline would get him to and from the US cheaply. However, rather than finding a job as a steward, he was offered a position in the airline's photographic unit.

In the 1970s, O'Neill finally crossed the Atlantic and began shooting the stars of Hollywood for the likes of Playboy, Life and Premiere magazine. O'Neill continued to enjoy great success on both sides of the pond throughout the 1980s and 1990s and is still working regularly today for newspapers and magazines.

O'Neill was the official photographer for Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday tour.
