Artist biography:

Born: 1970, New York

Stephan Fowlkes received his BA from Bennington College, Vermont. He has furthered his study and training at the Lacoste School of the Arts in France and at Columbia University Teachers’ College in New York.

In 1993 he was the recipient of the Academy of American Poets’ Prize, and was also Guest Resident at The Carving Studio Sculpture Center in West Rutland Vermont, Guest Artist Lecturer at Robert Hull Flemming Museum, Burlington, Vermont in 2001, Guest Artist at the Louise Bourgeois Sunday Salon in New York and in 2002 Full Fellowship Residency at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, Vermont.

Stephan Fowlkes’ work features in many private and public collections. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Artist Statement:
‘Inspired by the cause, I made these pieces especially for this benefit, using reclaimed wood as the sole medium, and loosely based on Stripes series.’
