Simon Stone

Artist biography:

Born in Cape Province, South Africa in 1952

Studied Fine Art at the Michaelis School in Cape Town, and later continued his art studies in Italy.

Since the late 1970s, he has worked in oils, mosaics and watercolour sketchbooks. He is recognised as one of South Africa's finest painters and his work is held in corporate, private and public collections in South Africa and internationally, including the South African National Gallery.

Simon Stone's collections are shown worldwide and in select corporate collections including Alexander Forbes, Mobil Oil, Anglo American Collection, Pendock Collection, Johannesburg Art Gallery, South African National Gallery, Gencor, UNISA and the University of the Witwatersrand. Stone's awards include the Merit Art Awards, Volkskas Atelier in 1986 and the Irma Stern Scholarship in 1976.
