Artist biography:

Born: 1955, New York

Peter Dayton holds a BFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and studied at the Rochester Institute of Technology (with Nam Jun Paik), and at the Master Workshop of Fine Arts, Southampton, New York.

Since the 1990s, Peter Dayton has garnered a national reputation for his collaged flower paintings that reference the psychedelic era of Andy Warhol as well as the slick 1980s consumer culture exemplified in the work of Jeff Koons.

Dayton’s work has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions including; 2008 ‘Black Boards, White Chicks Part II,’ Salon 94 Freemans, New York; 2007 ‘Black Boards, White Chicks,’ John McWhinnie at Glenn Horowitz, New York and 2010 ‘Private (Dis)play,’ New York Academy of Art, New York, and ‘Swell: Art 1950-2010,’ Metro Pictures, Nyehaus and Friedrich Petzel Gallery, New York, ‘My Summer Vacation,’ Winston Wächter Fine Art, Seattle, Washington 2009.

Dayton’s work is in the public collections of the Parrish Art Museum South Hampton, New York, Chanel USA and Tokyo, Japan, Neiman Marcus, the Denver Art Museum, Denver, Colorado, the Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Texas and many others.

Peter Dayton lives and works in East Hampton, New York.
