Artist biography:
Lyle Ashton Harris was raised in New York City and Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania and received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts. Harris works in diverse artistic media, including video, photography and performance.
Harris' work has been shown internationally, and has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Institute of Contemporary Arts in London, the Kunsthalle Basel and the Centre d'Art Contemporain in Geneva. He was included in the 52nd Venice Biennale.
During 2000 and 2001, Harris was a fellow at the American Academy in Rome. He has received numerous awards for his photography, and his commissioned work has been featured in a wide range of international magazines, including The New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, Newsweek and Vibe.
Lyle Ashton Harris currently divides his time between New York and Accra, Ghana, where he teaches part of the year on the NYC campus. Lyle Ashton Harris is currently represented by by CRG Gallery in New York and the Baldwin Gallery, Aspen.
