Artist biography:
Born: 1985, California
Kajahl Benes received his BFA from San Francisco State University and his MFA from Hunter College of the City of New York. He has also studied at the Academia di Belli Arti, in Florence, Italy.
Benes has the ability to create characters in a natural, realistic way and master the art of juxtaposition in order to produce thought-provoking imagery. Through his eyes the influences and relationships of the Western World within African culture are expored. Within his work, the artist depicts African woman exotically in a way that has not been done before. He shows powerful images of tribal men and women dressed in modern fashions, seemingly blending the two cultures.
His recent exhibitions include the Black Portrait at Rush Arts Gallery, NY in March 2011, Art 94124 presents; Jazz in 2009 and Strictly Bayview at the Art 94124 Gallery in 2008.
