Artist biography:

Born: 1966, Hampshire, England

James Sparshatt's work captures the vibrancy and emotional intensity of life. Many of his images draw upon the influence of music and dance around the world: the Flamenco of Spain, Tango from Argentina, Salsa from the streets of Havana. Soweto Strings is part of a series of images taken at the Buskaid Project for stringed instruments in Soweto township, South Africa.

He has been exhibited in New York, Colorado, Texas, Utah, Dublin, London, Spain, Cuba and across the United Kingdom. His exhibition at the Royal National Theatre was described in the Sunday Telegraph as 'a dazzling collection of black and white images…'

Sparshatt images are produced as palladium platinum prints by specialist platinum printers Paul and Max Caffell of 31 Studio. 31 Studio also works closely with the Henri Lartigue estate and Sebastião Salgado.

James Sparshatt was a winner of the 2008 International Exhibition at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Colorado, USA, was shortlisted for the 2009 Sony World Photographic Awards and was a finalist in the World Photography Gala awards in 2010. His work has recently been shown at Art Chicago, Art Palm Beach and Slick (Paris) as well as in numerous art fairs around the world.
