Artist biography:
Born: 1956, Connecticut
Donald Baechler was educated at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, The Cooper Union in New York and the University of Fine Arts in Frankfurt / Main (Stadelschule). In 2004 he worked as a lecturer at the Summer Academy in Vienna.
Baechler began exhibiting internationally in the early 1980s. His great inventory of worldly images, recorded on slides and collected for years, are the source for many of the compelling images in his paintings and graphic work.
Donald Baechler has a large international following, and his work can be seen in museums throughout the world including, Museum of Modern Art, New York, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Guggenheim Museum, New York, New York Public Library, New York, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, National d'Art Moderne, Paris, National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul, Korea, Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janiero, Brazil, Malmo Konsthall, Malmo, Sweden, Museum Ludwig, Budapest.
Donald Baechler lives and works in New York City.
