Founded in 2004, The Creative Block is a creative outlet for artists as well as collectors. Established and emerging artists are invited to interpret 18 x18 cm blocks in any way they choose. Because of the block's small format, it promotes fresh creative exploration among even the most established styles.

The Creative Block, headed by Jeanetta Blignaut, is an initiative of the COEO art collaborative, which spearheads original projects with South Africa's emerging artists. They strive to initiate projects that energize cultures, challenge stereotypes and break boundaries.

Collectors of the works become part of the creative process by arranging and rearranging their selection of works, creating a bigger and more personal artwork.
