Artist biography:
Born: 1981, Imo State, Nigeria
Adolphus Opara is a freelance documentary photographer based in Lagos. He studied computer science at Ambrose Alli University and worked for Nimbus Art Centre, Lagos before embarking on his photography career.
Opara has covered assignments for both local and international media. His photographs have been published worldwide. Opara's work has received several prestigious nominations and awards.
His work has been exhibited widely both internationally and local. Recent exhibitions include: 'LAGOS 1960 - 2010' Exhibition by MYDRIM Gallery, Lagos 2010; 'LAGOSPHOTO' an international photography exhibition; African Artists Foundation, Lagos 2010; 'Road to Twentyten and beyond' exhibitions by World Press Photo in Amsterdam, Cape town and Nairobi 2010; 'Nigerians behind the lens' BONHAMS, London, 2011; 'Contested Terrains' TATE Modern, London 2011.
